Hi all i'm considering my first alfa but would need the ability to install a child seat in it occasionally.

has anyone had any experience doing this as i don't believe the spiders come with anchor points?
i have read you can turn the air bag off which is good but how can a child seat be fitted and who do i approach to do the work?

anyway thanks all

Hi mate,

if you need to modify the car to provide the right tether mounts for the seat - these guys: http://www.v-gear.com.au/  might be a good starting point.  They do a lot of work for the 4wd crowd - fitting rear seats in old series land rovers for example.

You could give one of the auth. fitting stations a call here: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/SafetyAndRules/SaferVehicles/ChildRestraints/RestraintFittingStations.htm  - you may need to drop in with the car and they'll let you know what's required, and possibly recommend someone (probably vgear / vehquip anyway)  who can mod the car for you.

You usually only need to disable the airbag if you are using a rear-facing seat / capsule for a real young-un - double check with the fitting station :)

I fit supplementary restraints and I wouldn't touch it. I've had so many people come in and say "oh, but I can turn the airbag off". Sorry, you can't, not legally. And I'm not fitting a child anchor into a car that could potentially kill your kid.
So, I would advise, like I do with everyone who brings in a two seat vehicle with airbags, to forget about carrying a child seat in the front, because if you do find someone to fit it and they don't know 100% that airbag is disabled, then they are breaking the law.

Not quite sure what you mean, my 147 has a key hole to disable the airbag in the dash (only when the door is open).

I understand what you mean if there was no ability to disable, but there is.

PS: Nice to see you again Andrew.
