ALFA MECHANIC AROUND GEELONG AREA

Hi Everyone.

Looking at a car I might purchase down Geelong way. Any suggestions for a reliable mechanic for a pre-purchase check?

Good question - it's a 1987 quadrifoglio spider on Carsales. Am going down to see it in a few days.

I might know of the car - dark green located in Belmont? If it is this car then I have often seen it being driven around. Not had a close look at it but it looks to be in excellent condition and cared for.

If you would like a very knowledgeable mechanic to look at it I can suggest David Malkin who now runs a mobile braided brake hose business. He has been in the restoration business a very long time and really knows his trade - call him on 0418 378 939.

Although now retired Ross Lamont might be able to help you out. He ran Lamont Motors in Geelong for years and was a Alfa 105 racing mechanic back in the day. He with his son Tony specialised in Alfa Romeo and Jaguar. He would know exactly what to look for and would probably do it for free if you asked very nicely. If it is the car I am thinking it is Ross lives only a couple of minutes away. Please contact me for his number.

Prestige Geelong Motor Group advertise as an Alfa specialist, and I drive past their location often. But I have never used them, so I cannot vouch for their experience and quality (though I'd be curious to hear from anyone who knows, to help out on my 75 if required).

Prestige Geelong Motor is a development of S&A Motors run by Carl Marcello. They would be knowledgeable and equipped to service modern Alfas - there focus is on new stuff - maybe a 75 would be okay but I wouldn't take a 105 there - they probably wouldn't want it there either (but I could be wrong). A friend of mine is now working from home on a very casual basis - cheap rate, sometimes crazy, hard to often pin down - but knows Italian cars and does thorough work. I rang the gent this afternoon to drop down later PM and the car's sold.  I guess I was too slow!! It was the red 87 quad which is still on Carsales not the green one. I dare say the advert will be gone tomorrow.
