Howdy all,

I finally purchased a purchased a left hand door mirror for my 116 gtv6.

Question: are they screwed or bolted on usually? If bolted the how difficult is it to remove the door card to get to the other side for the nut?

And finally should I put a gasket or rubber between mirror and door to prevent rust?

Cheers,

yes to a rubber gasket, more to help with vibration than rust but if it stops in damaging the paint underneath it will help prevent rust

it is very dificult to get in behind that area inside the door and  if you did it would be very difficult to remove the mirror at some future time

you need to use an equivalent to the captive nuts, there are some plastic fixtures that go into a big hole you drill from the outside and then the bolt screws into that (available from autobarn, supercheap etc)

you need to be careful to get them lined up properly

hope this is helpful

Adrian,

I think my car has a replacement door on the LHS. The mirror is attached with big self tappers which constantly come undone. Given the rarity of Left Hand mirrors. I'd consider removing the door skins and using bolts. The RHS has Hex cap screws, so I'd match those. Good chance to lubricate the glass tracks at the same time.

Cheers,
AL.
