    Bliss

I was reading another great thread about the 2600 on the alfabb and how it was *perhaps* originally designed to rev much higher but harmIonic vibration issues slowed development  http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/1900-2000-2600-1950-1968/158352-history-2600-engine.html   I think it would be a magnificent engine to work on  (by which I mean the idea of it is magnificent, and the reality is, as I've found recently with the Super,  often less so..)

Does anyone in the club have a 2600 that's had the -subtle upgrade- treatment ie LSD and other goodies ?   I imagine the torque with the open diff and skinny tires is entertaining !

Cheers,
Scott

Hey Scott. I know precisely what you mean.  I know a few people down here with 2600 sprints.  To me, and perhaps a bit like my brother's Lancia Flaminia 2.8V6 Pininfarina coupe, and the Fiat 2300 s coupe, these cars represent the real essance of the late 1950s/early 1960s GTs outside of exotica.

Check out some of the clips on YouTube for there are a number of ones with precisely the sort of setup you are asking about.  Wicked.

I was speaking with David Wright (Pre 1940 Vehicle Registrar) and was commenting on the elegant style and precise panel fit of his Silver 2600.  I did not know that these were the last of the hand made cars, being the first series.

Those cars are great long distance tourers and he advised that some have previously had power steering put in to make them more manageable around town.  Also for extra performance, Auto Delta (that is the Alfa Factory Racing and Performance Team) made a full range of parts to upgrade the car - some still available but of course not easy to find.

What a hoot !

Hey John, what a great clip! I am guessing that 2600 had a 3 x weber conversion (from thre asthmatic solexes) and an exhaust conversion with a mandatory suspension upgrade too. It was flying in the clip. I have a great weakness for the 2600. They are a gentleman's touring car.  (That is why David Wright and I have one.  :))
They are regal with a brilliant shape, classic lines and beautifully appointed interiors. They are 1950's engineering though and to go as fast and hard as the clip requires some significant upgrading.

For all of you restoration afficiandos out there I am going to post some pictures of a project car a friend of mine bought in 2005. He intended to restore it but his business (he is a Barrister) is precluding him from doing this. The car is in Red Hill and was part way through a resto when he bought it. I helped load it onto the trailer with all of the spares etc. It is in good condition and the engine had been fully rebuilt (that was pre 2005). It came with at least 2 webers (in case you wanted to do a conversion), a spare block and lots of other stuff. PLEASE some one save it! There are so few running 2600s. (Note: I have no financial interest in the car).

If you would like to organise a visit to see the car (it is in Red Hill), please call Nic on 0412580303. Better mention I (Phil Nash) had posted the photos and you are with the club to provide context.

I should also note that I have a parts catalogue and alot of spare parts i am willing to help someone restore the above car.

A great source of parts is OKP in Germany. They are brilliant.

Over and out!

I seriously wish I could Phil. For that one looks to be in really sound condition to be saved.   Damn I hate not having sufficient funds or somewhere to work on such beauties. House renovations are a money black hole !!!
