Have just fitted oil cooler to 2l engine. The standard oil filter Ryco Z89A is too big for space. Any suggestions?

Have seen oil filter kits.

Revolution Race gear and many other places have them.

Not sure on smaller oil filter.

Glenn,

I have the oil cooler sandwich plate from Vin Sharp and use the Ryco Z89A without space issue.

Also make sure you use hose clamp and tie the cooler up so it doesn't unwound itself because the connection to the sandwich plate is not as secure.

maybe try an oil filter from an air conditioned model, as these are actually slightly smaller. Try international Auto and you could get a RYCO product comparison to match

The Ryco Z-89 is quite a large filter, i have some other filters at home that suit Alfa Romeo models that are actually smaller physically, they are TECNOFILTER, UFI and a Genuine ALFA ROMEO, also you can use a Ryco Z-63 which fits Volkswagon and Audi's and some BMW motors, the thread on the filter is 3/4 inch, NOT 19mm, and they usually have the thread size stamped on the filters,[why, i don't know], all you need is to make sure the threads are the same and the sealing o ring on the filter is the same diameter, i use a Z-63 Filter on my Brothers Alfasud with a oil cooler as it goes on and off without a hassle, a Z-89 is another matter, the physical larger size means its hard to put a filter wrench on it due to EVERYTHING being in the way, why are oil filters that suit the same engine different sizes?, this is what i was told years ago, a small filter fills up with oil quicker and so you get oil pressure quicker, but the downside is that it has less filtering area, it was told to me by a Ford mechanic as to the difference between a Z-9 Falcons 1960-BA, BA- small filter, quite clearly, this argument could go on forever, Colin.

???  Z89 or any other std 105/116 sized filter should fit, tight and awkward but will go.
DO NOT use smaller sized filters if at all possible, and check that whatever you do use has the same size (6mm) and number (8) of inlet holes in the face.  I have seen a few wrecked older engines from being starved of sufficient oil flow through use of minature oil filters that are designed for modern small-bearing engines and super-thin oils.

Jim Kartalamakis' performence tuning manual mentions fitting issues if an oil plate is used on the 116. He suggests modification of the fender wall, which I believe he is indicating it be pounded out of the way, nicely, to give the filter clearance for removal etc... Totally agree with Vin who's in the business, from all my reading and research you can't be restricting your oil volume be it a modified donk or standard trim.
