Hi All,

Could someone please confirm the factory standard security that comes with the GT's (2005 model).
Does it have an immobiliser? I know it doesn't have an alarm.. Is there any security that comes standard with it?

I got asked when getting a quote for new insurance and I didn't know how to answer it.

Thank in advance  :)

It has an immobilizer and alarm. Didn't realize it had an alarm until my dad set it off lol.

Something I learnt at an Alfa specialist workshop. As the key is coded with an electronic signature, when you insert the key and turn, this deactivates the immobiliser. So its more than just a key.

really??? it has an alarm?? how do u deactivate it when it goes off?

I haven't had to myself but I'd imagine with the unlock button on the key like any other car.

cool.. i might try it out today... lock and arm the car via the key... they open the car manually with the key.. hopefully that will set the car alarm off (as it wasn't disarmed via the key)...

hope that works and proces it  :)

No alarm AFAIK. If a 2005 first-registered GT has one, it would be aftermarket.

I'm happy to be corrected of course, but my 2004-build, 2006-first registered GT has no alarm. And all GTs up to this period of first registration were built to the same spec, again AFAIK.

Mines an 04 with no signs of an alarm either (like a beep at lock).

my plan above didn't work... i couldn't get the alarm to "go off"..

when armed.. i do see a flashing red light from the "key" icon in the middle console... is that just the immobiliser?

shiny_car

Yes, that's a factory warning/security light, unrelated to any 'alarm'.

thanks  :)

been doing some google searches and UK forums states that GT has standard alarm..  :o
the version they have should be the same as the ones imported to us right??

That's presumably how AR justify the astronomical fee to replace a key... not to mention the dealer surcharge on coding it for your vehicle...  ::)

(Not that AR are any different to many other manufacturers in that regard.)

AU-spec GTs (and other Alfas) are quite different to UK-spec. Most things that are option in the UK, came standard on the V6 GT here. The alarm, though, was not fitted for our cars. Maybe it didn't comply with ADR, no idea.
