I had to switch it off. I'm obviously getting a little sensitive in my old age.

I have seen bits on that fabulous SHELL history of motorsport, about 25 years ago,and i hate to see "stacks", but it is good now how very few get killed in motorsport, unlike the olden days cause the cars are now so much safer, which the safety technology filters down to road cars, racing improves the breed, and all that stuff, Colin.

Those guys who pioneered motor sport sure lived on the edge. I just wrote a short history of Lakeside and was shocked by the number of Formula One drivers who came to Australia for the Tasman series in the 60s who didn't make it to 1970. Motor sport safety has come a long way in the past 50 years. May all those poor souls rest in peace.

And into the 60's some drivers were against seatbelts, arguing that it was better to be thrown clear than to stay in the car, as i type this i am looking at a 1985 picture on my wall of the late Michael Alboreto in a Ferrari and my god their feet are close to the front, designed to act as an early warning system for an impeading crash, no doubt, Colin.

I've read the same Colin. Whenever I see these crashes it makes me cringe and shudder, as well as when I still see these open top, narrow, on thin wire wheels race cars like the famous 159 racing around these days, BUT, I can't help to really want to drive one and get a bit of 4 wheel power drift going on.
