Electronic Ignition Kits

Hi guys
Has anyone ever fitted one of these kits?

In particular it claims to assist with starting, which appeals as it can take more than a few kicks to get the old girl going as she's not a daily driver.

I'd be reluctant to outlay hard-earned on an unknown product. To buy one of these kits without getting full operating data from a satisfied user or otherwise reliable source is flirting with danger.

Price looks a little on the light side.

Suggest you check out locally available options. Might cost a bit more initially but post purchase service and back up could outweigh cheaper price from OS

Looks nasty. I mean the idea is fine - its just yet another hall trigger setup, but it looks "cheap" and is "cheap" so I wouldn't be expecting reliability / quality build. If you don't use your car often, your points must last a fair while between adjustments, right? And I wouldn't get too excited about the claims for improved starting - doesn't really "add up". Points should be fine for starting if adjusted correctly... If you do want to ditch the points you obviously want reliability so I agree with Barry - find something local/supported - hopefully someone who has fitted such a thing can give you a pointer - I know a lot of people have...

If you want quicker starting on a non-daily driver, possibly the best thing you can do is to add an electric fuel pump, in the fuel line near the rear axle. I've had several Alfa motors with high energy spark and although they probably help, lack of fuel in the carbies is a show-stopper and the mechanical pump is rather slow in fixing that.

Hi guys.  I put a 'Hot-Spark' kit from the US in my 1973 Berlina daily driver almost 2 years ago and it has been terrific.  About A$50 plus delivery.  Looks very similar to the kit on ebay. Highly recommend it.

Ditto here - the Hot Spark hall effect kit is very good.

I ended up replacing the whole thing with a 123ignition after a year or so because the shaft on my distributor was quite worn.
