Mike

These cams came from me.  I bought them in an engine from someone else.  I ran that engine for a while and took it to Winton etc.  Things I can tell you about it.  It made exactly the same low down horsepower as a fully built PACE 195Hp engine with those cams.  That is a compliment, Vins engines throttle very well down low considering how much up top they have.  It made peak Hp at about 8500rpm.

The engine ran 45's, and a decent amount of head work.  I am being vague as I honestly cannot recall exact specs anymore.

I 'think' from memory though, the engine ran 10.5:1 comp.  I cannot make a direct comparison between the two engines though because it turbout out that the carbies were not fully opening on the first engine and therefore it would simply run out of puff up top, making 100Hp at the wheels at the smae point Vinnies did, and then after that, it's anyones guess what the difference might have been.  Suffice to say that I only found this out because when I jumped back on the same dyno to test the new Vin engine, it drew the exact sma ecurve as my first engine....which I was rather unhappy about, maxing out at 100Hp.  We soon tracked it down to a 3/4 open butterfly.  Once remedied, it screamed to 145rwhp.

My point?  You've put race cams in a stock head, and you've managed to get less cylinder filling than a stock engine, which is not a surprise.  My other point, nothing wrong with your cams, crazy street cams I will warrant you, but on a big head, proper timing, I think you will find them very tractible, as well as entertaining at the other end.  Given the price you bought them for, an absolute bargain, if I wasn't in turbo land, I'd buy them back.

Cheers

right you are Mike.
As we discussed a couple of months ago, the ultimate plan now it to work over my spare head (time & $$$ being the limiting factor) and pop it on. Still going to be a little while away I fear.
Andrew dyno'd just before you went there, and we've managed to get the same hp as Geoff's old targa GTV on the 105200 cams, so there is plenty of potential left yet.
Will try and catch you soon, and get some idling advise!!
Also I now know where to get the correct spec from. plan is to keep it fairly safe with revs, gradually up to 7,5-7,8.
