Advice on buying a 105 series

Who in Melbourne would you recommend to do a thorough check on a 1750 or 2000 105 series that I'm intending to buy?
Also, what are the most common problems - especially mechanical - to look out for, other than body rust of course?

Would really appreciate some experienced advice to guide me.

Broadly speaking, mechanically these things are pretty good.  2nd gear syncro in box is usually shot (perhaps other gears too).  Usual suspension rubbers will have deteriorated over time and will need attention (driveshaft donuts included).  I could list some more, but best to have a chat with an Alfa specialist mechanic.

Depends on where in Melbourne you are as to who to recommend, but Monza Motors in Bayswater will always give good advice.  Check out the sponsors page there are some others there that may be closer to you.

Hi Alex,
First point: You have chosen a great series of cars! Bang for buck, nothing comes close (IMHO) - I have had (or do currently own) 60/70/80s Ferraris', Lambos', Maseratis', Austin Healeys', Porsches', Lancias', Fiats
Second point: Depending on where you live, look at our club sponsors list. All are very experienced with the models you are exploring and some are life members of the club who are keen to ensure a good ownership experience.
Third point: Refer to point 2. You need to have the body, chassis and mechanicals checked out.

You COULD get RACV to look at it, but I wouldnt bother. If Bruno and crew look at it (Maranello), they will give it a far more critical review and be quite pragmatic with their advice.  You can trust them.

RACV will take most of the the time trying to figure out what make it is, when he figures it out then cracking jokes like "surprised its hasnt rusted away already" chuckling to himself like he is the first person to ever think of that one.....

If you want the belt and braces, take it to another Alfa specialist would be my advice.  But Bruno loves these cars and has owned many over the years, he knows them well.
