Interesting.  Now it is clear, David did speak to me describing what had happened.  I always thought people go off to the right into Dandy Road.

I am not that brave in that sector.

A couple of things
1. I think there are plenty of ways to go off up there. I had been told to stay of any of the painted bits at that speed even when it was dry.
2. Watching the vision again getting a long way over to the right at the top of the hill ( possibly onto the ripple strip ) really looks like it unsettles the car.
3. I have only been sprinting for a few years but the track surface at Sandown has really slipped over that time. On the weekend just gone  V8 supercar guys were having a bitch about it saying its the worse track surface they go to. Maybe after they finish re surfacing Philip Island next year they can move on to Sandown.

On a positive note after watching & listening to hours of replays of Choderboys  exploits it appears the best course of action is to pull it down  into 4th at the top of the hill and accelerate in a straight line to  Dandenong Rd Corner

He was on road tyres.

When I mean off to the right at Dandy Road, I mean crushing into the armco on the right, usually under brakes or lack of.

It's not getting resurfaced until Lindsay Fox buys it  ;)
If you think Sandown's surface is bad try Calder.
I want the V8Supercab suspension, they mount every curve at Sandown.

Hughy and Chodderboy will tell me off if I get any where near ridding on the ripple strips.

Chodderboy: did you mount the ripple strip, I think you did that's why the extractors and exhaust are broken.
Me: whistling innocently ...

Resurfacing is when they start subdividing and surfacing residential roads.

Just looking at the in car data. It  looks like it happened half way through his first full lap . You wonder how warm the tyres were.

You need to take Chode's example, and get all 4 wheels on the ripple strip....  He's very entertaining to follow through those corners.  I wouldn't do it on standard suspension and road tyres though.

Possibly, but you only need a dab of brakes, then a downshift (or not, depending on your car, but you need to be in the meat of the power).  Turn it in and apply the power, and the car is settled again.  I can only speak from my experience of course.  And granted, I haven't been there for a year.

My opinion, the MX-5 turned in too early there, doesn't have power on (although hard to tell from the video, he may have), didn't catch the slide early enough, so should have just let it turn around rather than try to correct.  I've come off there when I went in at my regular speed, but was passing someone, so was 2 metres off line but still trying to get the same apex.  The back end came around, but luckily it came round so fast that I had no chance of catching it, so I just stood on the brakes and let it spin off into the generous run-off on the inside. I did a graceful 720, selected second, and drove off.  Then went and changed my pants;  it's not a nice corner to come off on.

Sandown demands a lot of respect.  Especially on road tyres and standard suspension.  Bloody fun track once you work it out though.  So I've heard.

Yes, he did mention cold tyres to me.

We have missed you over the last year Sheldon. Hopefully you can get Ironsides out again before next years Shit Box Rally
