105 Wiper Wiring

Hi All,

I've made a couple of posts on the Alfabb forum, etc regarding upgrading the wipers on my 1969 GT1300 Junior stepfront to two speeds, and I want to get the park function working correctly. Adding an intermittent function would be nice, but not essential. Getting everying to work with the foot washer pump would also be great.

I currently have the early 3-wire wiper motor. I'm thing about swapping this for a BMW E21 wiper motor, or, I've read that an Alfa 33 wiper motor may fit a 105 car. My problem is that I really can't seem to get good (ie very detailed) instructions on wiring in a replacement wiper motor, and my electrical knowledge really isn't up to the task of working it out myself. Can anyone provide an idiot's guide or personal experience as to what they have done (ie photos and simple do-this-do-that instructions)?

Failing that, does anyone happen to know a good auto electrician (preferably a mobile auto electrician) operating in Melbourne's South Eastern/Bayside suburbs who might specialise in custom wiring jobs?

Cheers,

Nick

With my basic knowledge of 33 wiper systems, this is how it works, for intermitten, there is on the switch, an intermitten setting that sends power to a timer relay and say every 10 seconds it sends power to the wiper motor, so to have an intermitten function you would need a new switch and timer relay, and for the fast speed the motor gets full power thru the seperate relay and for slow speed, i beleive there are some resisters in the wiper motor that slow it down from fast, but i am not 100% sure on that, have you ever thought about putting a stand alone intermitten switch, that you can vary the wipes between 5 - 30 second wipe intervals, i had one on my mid 70's VW and it worked very good for the changing conditions, this would save you getting a new switch and motor, its just another option to consider, Colin.

Hi Nick
I have been intending to convert the wipers on my Super to a multi speed set up and most auto elecs that I have spoken to have said it is not a major problem.
I haven't done it yet but I did install a wiper motor from a75 as it has the same mounts etc as the original unit so you might try that instead of the BMW unit.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for that... I guess the question is, will the Alfa 33 wiper motor fit up to the 105 wiper arms. I then need to work out (our get an auto electrician) how the wiring should work.

Hi Barry,

About the only useful part I didn't remove from the Alfa 75 that I sourcedmy Twin Spark engine from was the wiper motor :-). However, it's good to know that the 75 wiper motor does fit a 105. Again, working out the wiring still remains a mystery to me.

Regards,

Nick

Like i said, its one thing to fit the motor, also you will need swiches and relays, it looks like you have a single speed wiper and switch, you would have to change it to a multispeed switch, Colin.

I am missing the correct relay to have intermottent wipers. I'm told that the 33 wiper relay is correct but haven't been able to locate/identfy one as yet. Can ypu advise which is the correct unit and or a relay number to look for?

Thanks

If i remember rightly its a big orange one that sits near the battery, i am not going to look at mine and tell you because it is now in an very hard to get at spot!, have you got a wiper switch with an intermitten setting yet?, Colin.

I was hoping that someone would save me the rouble of hunting thru 33 manuals until I found the correct part # listed. I do have a few 33 relays but unsure which, if any, are the correct ones.

I have a multi position rotary switch that I have been told will be suitable. I have even mounted the switch on the dashboard in preparation.
