Hi Guys

Just thinking about future projects and one thing that is on the list is a mild supercharging project.

Not talking about a million extra horsepower and full engine rebuild, just an add on for some boost.

I have the book from http://www.hiperformancestore.com/superchargerkit.htm but would like to talk/see/hear anyone who has done this.

Let me know what the thoughts are and if you have done a project like this.

Thanks

Shane

I am in the mid to last stage of the mechanical side (not fuel delivery and tuning) of fitting a Vortech centrifugal supercharger to my 75 3 litre http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/forum/index.php?topic=7130.0.
My advice for anyone who doesn't have access to lathes, milling machines and material (steel and or aluminium round bar and plate) is to simply buy Greg's kit.
When you start paying for pulleys and brackets to be made, you'd be shocked at how quickly it gets very expensive. A lot of people who don't have machining experience don't understand how long it can take to do a custom, 1 off job.
Same said for fabrication (shaping and welding metal).
Alignment and rigidity are another thing and are extremely important to belt life and its ability to transfer power.
If you can get programmable computer to run fuel and ignition, that will be a huge plus. Again, the real costs for that add up very quickly.

If you do want to go down this path yourself, I'm happy to answer any questions I can. My own project is totally open and if anyone wants specifics, if I can find them (a few mud maps got thrown out) I am happy to share.

Thanks Duk

Glad to hear you are learning lots :-)

I wouldn't attempt it without just getting a kit which was "mostly" drop straight in.

I am sure when all the work is done the sresults will be well worth the wait.

Good luck and I will follow the rest of your progress with interest.

CAtch ya

Hey Shane,
seems you have similar thoughts/aspirations for your beast as I do with mine. Are you looking at Greg Gordons kit or are you looking elsewhere? Have you got prices? Thinking of water misting and intercooling or KISS...? I would be very interested in what you are thinking. I am looking at getting some engine work done before forcefeeding her (got a bung head gasket and a bit smokey - needs some new seals etc - and whilst the heads are off, better cams for low to mid torque, port work new seals, etc) all the better to handle it when I get to that point.
Cheers
Marty

no the V5 period is over, I am now in a leaky V6 phase :-(

After not driving the car for nearly two months, the Ducati is in the workshop, and I just got back from Mount Isa where I don't think there has EVER been an Alfa, I am having withdrawal symptoms :-(
