I now have another Alfa in the family,
My Daughter has now a 2002 147 Selespeed. :D

I took it for a drive and the twin spark goes very well, but I have notice when its warm it has a slight jolt when you take off. I am new to Selespeed.
Has anyone had this issue with a Selespeed before.

I have never driven a Selespeed, but people who drive them, love them, the Selespeeds were always a bit jerky on take off as they are not a conventional automatic, as they have no torque convertor to smooth things out, the advantage they have over a normal automatic is no loss of performance or increase of fuel consumption, compared to the manual version, its like a hydraulic actuator is letting the clutch in and out, it takes a normal driver time to learn, to take of smoothly without jerking the clutch, Colin.

Make sure you take it on a long run, just to make sure its ok, and if not sure of something always double check, by taking it on another run somewhere, after all, you have to make sure its safe for your daughter, Colin.

it probably needs an End Of Line calibration preformed... the sele box must be calibrated and the clutch rod length set annually.

they seldom are.

as for it at the next service.

I went for a drive again,

The car went fine(great)

I have noticed after about half hour drive and its at operating temp the selespeed on take off seems to be in neutral for about 5 or so sec's and all of a sudden it engages in gear.

Its like a massive jolt due to the rev's are at approx 1000rpm.

This vehicle has only travelled 83,000 kms. ???

How do you calibrate the selespeed and how do you set the clutch rod.

the clutch rod length is set thru a locknut under the battery, set to 28mm IIRC... the calibration can only be done w/ diag/FES or alfa examiner... it is a routine which resets everything....

first thing first, change the fluid and reset... if not solved, i'm afraid to say it could be the clutch electrovalve or the clutch needing replacement.

thanks guys for your advice,
I might take it to Monza motors. :-\

Can you imagine taking your Alfa Romeo with a Selespeed to a backyarder!, Dealer or Alfa Romeo specialist only, and make sure they have an Alfa Romeo diagonostic computer, they would have done this job hundreds of times, Colin.

Ok here we go. :-\

Left the car in the garage at home for a week or so,

Started the car and tried to select reverse or 1st ,
all I herd was a click , the dash showed that the selespeed was not selecting any gears and going back into neutral :-[.

Switch off the engine for about 5 minutes and tried again with no luck,
This car has now been in the family for 16 days with already selespeed issues. Mine you all the services on this vehicle are up to date and it has low k's.

I phoned the car yard that I brought 147 from and they arranged it to be towed to Monza motors.
the problem with this car was that it had lost its program for the selespeed. ???

Has anyone else had this problem and would it accure again,

see above. i don't know how i could say it clearer. There is nothing wrong with the car - just the owners who did not carry out the above. Its a maintenance task of the sele to calibrate ANNUALLY.

program is fine, just needs CALIBRATION so it knows where the gears and clutch is... these fall out of synch over time.

ALFAAA

Hi wankski,

I forgot to mention that the calibration was done and it still had issues with not selecting at times. :-[

The actuator has now been changed but the clutch has a slight slip and at times it wont select 1st or reverse,

This vehicle has only travelled 83,000 kms and I have been told on selespeeds clutch life span should be approx 80,000 kms to 100,000 kms.
