OK, I'm considering an Alfetta sedan and have a couple of various model-related questions:

Square headlight model:
1.   Are the actual headlights available NOS/aftermarket?
2.   Expensive?
3.   What bulbs do they use?
4.   Is there any (easy) upgrade to the square lights (apart from going to twin-round and using USA buckets)
5.   What is the interchangeabilty between grilles?  I'm certain the first round-light grilles fit the square light cars (see Sportiva) but what about the later GCLs etc.
6.   Is the sheetmetal different on the last model sedans?

I'e pulled the dashboards out of many coupes, and it's really quite easy (much easier than a 75TS!!!!).  Is the 116 Sedan dash relatively easy to remove?  (e.g. screwed-in instruments, a couple of air vents, and a few bolts).

Cheers

I can say that the Alfetta dashboard is relativley easy to remove having done it a few times.

Can't help with the grilles I am sorry.

Swapping the grilles and headlights is an easy job, just the wiring will require sorting. I did it myself to an Alfetta I once owned. They don't have buckets like the 105's. The headlights and grille are one unit and just bolt into the space. The earlier (pre-1977) Alfetta 1.8 grille arrangement will not fit as it is a totally different nose cone.

FYI, "round headlights" were not an America-only feature. All Alfetta sedans sold after 1983 were fitted with these. These models were known as Migliarata (1983) and the Sportiva II as you mention, also produced in 1983 and possibly late '82 (not sure about the production dates for these), and the 1984 GCL. I'm certain a few wreckers would stock these.

The Alfetta sedan, generally speaking, is not a collectable car - yet, but I would suggest you try to find a Sportiva I or Sportiva II. These come up from time to time, there is at least one of each on carsales.com.au at the moment. They may be collectable some day, fitted with unique decals, a lower front air dam/spoiler (S2 only), a limited edition dash-mounted plakette, firmer shock absorbers, a Momo steering wheel, unique 14" alloys (S1) and 15" GTV wheels (S2).

Thanks guys.

To be clear, when I mentioned 'USA buckets' this is a mod of done on a few 116GTVs.  The US cars used different round headlights to our cars.  They have a metal bucket which incorporates all the mounts and adjusters (same as the back of our Carellos), and then a stock round light fits into this bucket.  If you can source some buckets you then open up a wider range of aftermarket sealed beam and bulb headlights vastly superior and cheaper to the stock Carellos.  Of course, the job isn't complete without a set of relays and better wiring.   I usually set them up as H4 high/low beams on the outer set, with dedicated spotlights on the inner set.

I have been watching a few Sportivas over the past few months.  But as usual, they are all too far from home to be viable.  But if anyone knows of anything near Newcastle, I'm all ears.
