Read on a motoring forum the other day, that if you get a flat tyre, and change to a skinny space saver tyre, you are not covered for insurance if you have a prang, this is due to fact, it isn't the correct wheel\tyre combination and the poor performance of braking, stability and handling, it is a clause that is inserted to stop drivers motoring around for months on an inferior combination tyre package, and to get your regular tyre fixed pronto, anyone heard this one?, Colin.

Most PDS are the same but all those interested should check their insurers PDS. If the car came with the space saver as standard spec and the accident was not caused by going over the max speed for that space saver wheel then I can't see how they can refuse a claim.

AAMI's can be best described in this instance in the following policy statements:

You are not covered: If your car was converted, altered
or modified from its maker's
specifications.

You are covered:
If you have told us and we have
agreed in writing to cover the
modification.

You are not covered if your car (including any attached
trailer) was:
in an unroadworthy or unsafe condition that contributed to the accident being a condition that was known to and disregarded by you.
