Hi all,

I lurk around here and alfabb from time to time. In '08 I purchased a '67 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, have driven and enjoyed it, but now its time for a re-build that I hope to start towards the end of the year. I had this car for sale last year, but have a new found enthusiasm and would like to find some more history of the car. Any information that can be provided will be greatly appreciated (feel free to pm as well)

This is what I know;

'According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 299846 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce RHD (105.37), manufactured on the 6th December 1967 and sold on the 11th December 1967 to Alec Mildren from Pymble, Australia. The body colour is hawthorn white (AR 013), with black interiors'.

I purchased the car in '08 in NSW. Limited documentation came with the car, the only name is Graeme Jeffries, for which there are receipts from '96 - '03.

There is an old, round Alfa Romeo Owners Club Australia sticker on the rear quarter glass so I'm hoping some of the earlier history may be known to club members.

The car is currently Red, but has been white and possibly light (lemans?) blue. looks like it has seats and some interior from a 1750 (but has original dash). Mechanically it's has been modified and runs a 2L & LSD, with battery in the boot. Given this, and the fact it had a fire extinguisher in the passenger foot well, on old style battery isolation cut-off in the engine bay, and a harness mounting point on the rear shelf, I'm assuming it has been sprinted and possibly raced at some time in its past.

I will post a photo or 2 shortly, thanks all for your help.

Tom, seeing your particular car for sale last year was one of the GTV's that kicked off my real lust for this model (as well as Max Bank's build up) - that second picture you've posted looks fantastic - thanks for sharing and good luck with the build. What have you done with the car since you've owned it ?

67gtv

thanks pancho, ive been watching your build thread on alfabb.

ive done little to the car since its purchase except maintenance on the front end and carbs. i came close to getting on the track for a super sprint and installed new steering wheel, harness, extinguisher etc, but thats it.

the car always photograps well, but its tired. the engine needs a rebuild and a cheap paint job by someone in the past is suffering, flakes, bubbles, etc. and the usual signs of rust and bog.

i found an entry list for an event at winton with graeme jeffries in an alfa, listed as an ACT entrant. anyone here from the ACT who may know Graeme?

thanks

Tom - what was the event at Winton you mention? Was it an Alfa club event?  If it was there will probably be some more details floating around somewhere.

And by 'raced' do you mean club sprints or more?  Many, many stepnose 105's have participated in club events over the years but relatively few were raced in open events.

hi alister,

the listing was here;
http://www.fosc.com.au/Documents/Wakefield%20Park/1204/Entry%20List.pdf
from the festival of sporting cars website. no dates to speak of that I could find, and he is listed as entering a '76 GTV (page 2). I am assuming there is a fair chance of it being the same person.

I have also found references to Graeme here:
http://www.groupsracing.org.au/Documents/GSRA%20%20NSW%20Race%20numbers%202012%20%20110112%20_7_.pdf
at the group s racing website (near top of page 3), and here;
www.historicveeaustralia.com/OranParkResults.xls
this time in a '71 GT junior.

Regarding the racing, I tend to agree that it was most likely club sprints, but you never know!

If anyone knows Graeme please send me a pm, I would love to get in touch. I am just looking to piece together a brief history of the car that includes past owners, any photos, and any copies of club sprint results etc.

cheers

I'd try some of the Alfa specialists like Robert Panetta at Manning Motors or Tony McKone (w) (02) 4577 5144. Tony knew more history on my cars as he keeps a track of this kind of stuff.
You could also send a PM (private message) on the AlfaBB to someone that registered but never posted under that name

i will contact the nsw club and act brach directly as they may not see this thread.

thanks all for your help, keep the info coming and i will let you know how i go

Tom,

Next Sunday (15th) is Auto Italia Canberra (AIC) http://www.autoitaliacanberra.com
Just about every Alfista in Canberra and the surrounding region attends this event, as well as many from Melbourne and Sydney.
So if you are chasing info on a car that lived in Canberra, AIC is the place to be next week.

Hope to see you on Sunday.

Cheers,
Peter.

Peter, your help is appreciated, I believe you passed on my details to Graeme.

He has been in touch by email and I look forward to finding out more info.

Would love to visit AIC, but I'm off to Italy in a couple of weeks and have too much to organise!

Thanks again for your help.

A quick update on this one. I got in touch with Graeme, unfortunately he is not a PO of my car.

Graeme sold two 105's to the guy I purchased mine from, one of them was a red '67 GTV - however this is not the car I purchased, so the seller has given me papers for Graeme's old car, not mine. No need to elaborate any further!

I'm OS for a few months but keen to continue searching. I'm sure someone knows the car, especially given the old NSW owners club sticker on the rear quarter glass and the supersprint mods.

I will follow up with Robert & Tony (as per Derek). Any other tips? Could someone point me to a longstanding member of the NSW club?

Help is much appreciated
Thanks
Tom

Does anyone have an email for Tony McKone? I've done some searching but cant seem to find one. I would usually call but i'm on the other side of the world!

Thanks again
Tom

Hi Tom,

Tony McKone is the AROCA National Register Coordinator and has lots of information on these cars (but only if a PO of your car registered the details with Tony at an earlier time)

But I'm not sure if he is on email ?  But you can contact him through his daughter Frankie Guinness (who is AROCA NSW's current editor) on editor@alfaclubnsw.org.au

Good luck!

Victor
