I'm changing the water in my car this weekend and wonder what people use as a cleaner/flush, if one is necessary at all ?

Commercial radiator cleaner, sodium bicarbonate or a couple of cans of coke ??

The radiator core is only a couple of years old, as is the heater core and all the hoses are less than 4 years old.
The car has always run distilled water plus inhibitor which is changed every year or two.
When I had the intake manifold off two years ago to replace the leaking carby mounts, the water galleries looked OK.

I usually use Nulon, but i have found all brands are good, but i usually run the cleaner for about a week at a minimum and up to 4 weeks depending on how busy i am, make sure you flush all the radiator flush so i doesn't mix with the new coolant, flush all the engine block and manifolds and heater and reverse flush it, like the comment about the cans of coke, heard this one, but never tried it, might be too corrosive as you can apparantly solder with it, Colin.

I used about 400g of NaHCO3 as suggested by the manual. Took the car on a long run yesterday and again this morning and then reverse flushed the system.

Once I get the replacement thermostat housing, I'll finish the job properly.
