Hello Graeme, heard from a bloke at work with a Repco F-1 motor that you can apply to CAMS, if you have an old racecar that needs Avgas, but i imagine that it would be a painfull process, and the car would most likely have to be logbooked, Colin.

Some fuel depots have avgas, not fuel stations, but fuel and petrol wholesalers \ distributors, but may need to buy 200 litres, and tank isn't cheap, it is aircraft quality, but can be refilled, Colin.

It is Colin Thomas, are you Graeme Riccardo from MONTY'S Tyres?, another lead i got was down near Hazelton power station, there is a RAAF base with planes, and there is a petroleum oil wholesaler near by, bit of a long drive though, much better than detonating an engine, Calder used to sell Avgas, back in the days of the Thunderdome, the Nascars and Auscars used to come off the 'dome' and fill up!, Colin.

This race fuel place on the url will sell you in 20 ltr container (with deposit).

They also go to most state and historic race meetings.

ring the petroleum companys, or don't Martini Racing sell it? The last resort would be to lower compression.

Ahm guys, if I can add just a quick point here, I was on a National committee looking at the issue of leaded fuels, including avgas, many years ago, mid '90's, under my work role with the Tas EPA.  Basically all the EPAs, inc Canberra, and the Petroleum Industry plus reps from CAMS, and a number of the other motorsport bodies met in Adelaide for a 1 day forum.

At that time, and I havn't kept up with this issue since, there was a push for the complete phasing out of the use of such fuels by cars, including a planned phase out of it for motorsport use.

As an interim step, there was a recommendation and it was agreed to at a National level to permit the ongoing use by genuine competitors of such fuels, so long as they filled out a log book which detailed when and where it was to be used.  As I understand it, it was agreed to that the use of such fuels could only be for testing and racing purposes.

I do recall that at the time, there were a bunch of other race fuels mostly from ELF that were considered both technically and environmentally acceptable and hence the reason for a goal to phase out Avgas.

As you may also be aware the avaiation industry is progressively looking at alternative jet fuels etc, and so I would expect that with time, Avgas will be a thing of the past.  What timeframes are we talking of, I have no idea, as I said I have been out of this issue for a long time now.

The other alternative is Race Fuels 18-24 Moray St. South Melbourne. They sell AVGAS in 20 litre drums and are very handy if you work in the CBD. Call Mark Tierney 9686 8645.
