Come on Colin, running out of talent is not excuse, just replace it with power, everyone does it, you know it.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong guys! Years ago Avgas was leaded "petrol" with anti knock addatives and an octane rating of around 115 that allowed compression ratios well up in the stratosphere of 10 to 1 ,in the old days, (much more than that needed Methanol tipped into the tank as well!)that was what was needed to get decent performance  from your hot FJ or A30 or Hillman Minx or Toyota Corolla and yes, the Mini!  Some people forget! the stuff was designed to fill the tank of your Cessna 175 or old 150 or anything that was designed to fly with a piston engine, lead additives are essentiel for reliable long term use of a piston engine designed for aircraft operation including converted Auto engines like VW and GM  Corvair. I must make a correction to a misconception that the term Jetfuel implies that Avgas will operate in a  747..767.. 777.;.....etc.   Jetfuel is a much fancier term to use than the real old name product that they fill the Jumbo tanks with today. It is and always will be Kerosene, admittedly with a couple of Extra ingredients. Kero doesn't burn too well in a Continental engined Piper, or a Lycoming in your homebuilt Gyrocopter,..............Open to discussion Gents!.......Cheers

Mckanik, from my memory of the discussions held in Adelaide that I attended you are spot on in your understanding. I also recall that the discussion clearly agreed that Avgas will be phased out though when I don't have any idea and besides perhaps since then maybe things have changed. The one question I would ask is Avgas actually needed these days, since as I understand it there are alternatives, which provide all the benefits without the enviro issues with Avgas. Maybe I am wrong in my knowledge of such matters?
