A small snip it of Sports Sedans race 3,  Sandown 17-6-12. Starts to rain while out on slicks! Permanent yellow flags between turn 2 and 4, no passing, so please excuse my kind words of encouragement to the commodore I wanted to pass. Poor 2nd gear is getting a bit weak.

Love your work Marcus - great video that says a lot about the difference between sports sedan racing and sprints.  Great driving in challenging track conditions!

Fantastic stuff Marcus. I don't know anything about your car. Any chance of a few details and specs? The Vic sport sedan racing looks like sensational fun!

Cheers,

Wow - impressive driving on slicks!

Your car looks nicely balanced, too.

Hi Brent

Car is an Alfetta GTV. Lightened body with seam welding, full weld in cage. Twin Spark race motor and gearbox. Suspension and brakes upgraded. Four pot calipers at front with bigger discs and outboard brakes at rear. Basically nothing went back in as standard, except say the front windscreen! It's not space framed though so still steel chassis, all be it lightened etc. Maybe running it in Alfa 6 hour so come and have a look if you are there.

Marcus,

Thanks for the rundown. Sounds like a great set up. Don't think I'll be down from Brisbane for the 6 hour but would love to check it out at some stage.

I have Jim Nielsen's old Giulietta sports sedan, which I run up here in the local Alfa Comp (just on skinny radial tyres though). After looking at your footage I took a look at the under 2l sports sedan website and was blown away by the lap records. Some damned quick machines in that group - 1.42 at PI for a 2l Honda!

Best of luck for the remainder of the season,

Brent

Yeah wow Jim's old car was pretty quick. It would be very competitive in under 2 liters. Never got to run my car, as it is now, against it when he still had it. Do they have sports sedans up in QLD?

Marcus,

Not much organised sports sedan action up here these days - certainly not for 2 litres anyway. I just run it in Alfa Comp sprints and races and occasionally in the open sedans racing category that they run at Qld Raceway and Lakeside. As we have to run semi slicks in the Alfa Comp, I don't have any slicks, but am tempted to buy a set just to see how much of a difference it makes.

I'd love to make the trip down to Vic sometime to have a run in the sports sedan series. Might have to make it a goal for next year.

BTW, do you have much info on Peter Beninca's new Alfetta GTV? Must be a pretty hot item. I hear it's running a japanese engine mounted on its side to keep it nice and low.

Cheers,

Brent

Not too much info except it runs a Nissan Xtrail engine that nothing is left standard in. Running all the top Autronic engine management and sensors etc. Engine is mid mounted next to driver and laying flat ie on its side. Its a full space frame with real down force from splitters and wings etc. I have been told that when building it they were saying they would not race it until they were as quick or quicker than the super tourers around Winton. It passes you very quickly on the straight! That's about all I know.

That would be great if you made it to a sports sedan round, have a couple of Alfa's racing. Let me know which event you are planning to do and I will make sure I get to it. Slicks will give you a couple of seconds, well they did for me anyway.

Gully,

Thanks very much for the pics mate.

What a weapon. That's one of the ugliest splitters I've ever seen! Man I'd like to see this baby in action though.

Hamer ,
I was taking the dog for a walk one day earlier this year ( somehow i always manage to walk past Beninca's it's only a couple of hundred metres from home) Anyway Peter & Joe had just received the splitter from the UK and they were doing some work  to fit it. Its an amazing piece of work from one of the race teams in the UK. Joe had already done a lot of wind testing modelling with it and was getting some great results. I used to do a bit of  sailing so have some understanding of foils , truly amazing piece of work in carbon fibre & weighs nothing.Beninca's also mentioned their next outing is at Philip Island in October, that should be worth watching.

I meant to also post earlier , have a scroll through the rest of Chris Noyes Web site . There is some other good shots of Marcus's car & other cars running in the series.

Thanks for the link to the pictures they are great. The ones in the wet show how dark the last race was getting, it was great fun! Yeah I asked Beninca's about the Sierra Cosworth wing they had on the car a few years ago and they said that really worked and n o they would not sell one to me. I have a front splitter for my car but no rear wing, I know I should put some areo on the car but reckon it will wreck the cars looks. Stupid I know but I love the idea of  being able to beat the others with wings etc with out them.

Did they say where they got the splitter from?
