Brera tyres

My Brera is about to get its third set of tyres. The OE set was Pirelli P Zero. Quite grippy, reasonable life at a bit short of 40,000km, became noisey late in life. Then I put on Continental Conti Sport 2. Breathtakingly expensive, not as good steering feel as the Pirelli, shorter life than the Pirelli (just) and noisey with poor directional stability late in their life. I think set 3 will be Toyo Proxes T1 Sport. I think Toyo make a good tyre, but my previous experience with the old 156 is that they made the steering feel a bit wooden (although not as bad as the Bridgestones on the 159). I  put Proxes 4 on it. I'm hoping the lower profile Brera tyres and the better T1 tyre will give better feel. But, I'm not impressed enough to pay the $100 / tyre premium for Conit's and I'm not going back to Pirelli's and I'm certainly not putting Bridgestone's on and there are not many other options for 235/45 R18 tyres. Does anyone have any experience with the Toyo's?

I have Toyo Proxes4 225/35R19 on my GT. Very happy in terms of grip and braking, dry and wet. A little more noisy than the OE Bridgestone RE050, but far more comfortable.

If you're happy to forego buying locally, tyres can be cheap from the US: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=235%2F&ratio=45&diameter=18 It's about A$250 per PAIR of tyres, shipped, and they arrive quickly (within a week).

I bought our last set of Conti CSC3 235/40R19 for our Ti 159 for a total of US$1644, delivered. Add in fitment costs. You can save quite a few hundred or more, for premium tyres; less for cheaper/smaller tyres.

I have Conti ExtremeContact DW on my 155, and highly recommend these as a cheaper-priced, premium tyre. Looks like you'd get a set of 4 of these for about A$1200, delivered.

Hi Doug

after the factory Pirellis, that were done by 30k, we decided to go for the Kuhmo Ecsta Sports.
200 bucks cheaper a corner and quieter too. Just as good in the wet but probably not in the dry.
Still plenty of meat left after 20k.

Cheers Joe

Hi,
I know your probably set on the toyo, but take a look at the Michi PS3.
I don't have them on an Alfa, but I have them on my daily which is a Megane Sport and they are definitely the best tyre I have ever purchased. Much better than the Dunlop Sport Maxx.
Take a look at them as you'll be very impressed with them. When the alfetta needs some new shoes, I will be putting them on.
Thanks
Joe

I put the Proxes on. The steering response is very crisp. I really pleased with it. The road noise is quite good, but you "feel" more road texture. I think the sidewalls might be stiffer or something. Its a slightly odd feeling. I wouldn't say its hashness, but definitely more textural feel. Although, I haven't had time to check what tyre pressures they guys put in it. I got the tyres done just 3 days before I left for Thailand.
