Exporting a Brera to Florida USA,

Hi,

I am in the Australian Navy and am taking up a position in Florida for 3 years from Dec 12. I am very interested in taking my 2007 Brera JTS with me, there is a servicing place in Tampa etc where I will live.  My question is whether the Brera meets the various US/Florida standards to allow me to register and drive it in Florida - the right hand drive is not an issue it is more to do with emission control etc.  Can anyone help me with advice as to where I would go to get a definitive answer on this - thanks

Thanks - will try the US based forum and see how I go - the US Customs stuff is confusing and being able to do this seems to lie on Alfa confirming the car conforms to US standards

Unless there is some sort of military exemption reckon the quick answer will be "not possible".  Alfa may have built it to US standards but that doesnt mean it has passed US testing.

Why export? Mate it won't be cost effective for you, you'd be better off buying another Alfa over there if you want to stay with the marque. They're considerably cheaper than over here, especially with our dollar. The Brera is too current, so you'd be up for heavy taxes and duties (although possibky exempt due to current ownership), don't forget car insurance may be an issue. Store the car here with family (if you want to keep it) or sell it off. It would be a good excuse to pick up a classic 105 or so, then bring it home as your car (tax and duty exemptions).
