Another thread, sorry I am on a mission from God. :P

My second gear/syncro is pretty much dead and near impossible to shift without crunching.

Are there any places in Oz that do exchanges for rebuilt/refurbished 'boxes? Ive noticed alot of places in the UK will for about $1000-1200AUD.

Or am I better off taking it to a shop and getting my original rebuilt? What paths have members followed? Any previous experiences and "must do's" while the gearbox is out?

Cheers

I rebuilt my own, lightened 1st and 2nd gear and replaced 2nd and 3rd sychros, flipped 1st and 4th. Plenty of local Aussie alfa workshops with plenty of experience working on these things, most 105 boxes have had 2nd gear synchro done in the past. Mine had been done in the mid seventies, and again in the late 80s...

Hey LaStregaNera

I have read about lightening the gears as a way to protect the synco and help the shift.but figured it would be big $$$. Do you remember what the cost of it was?

It cost me nothing. Bored machinest mate killing time waiting for redundancy payout...
