Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and alfa novice. I own a 1300 GT Junior (step front). Recently I changed the rear suspension, and now the height is 15mm different (left is 15mm higher). At original state, I did not measure and was not obvious as it was much higher, so I cannot tell if it was from the beginning, but now much lower and it is obvious. The height of the springs were the same. I have not changed shocks (koni yellow). The front is also different but only 5mm, and I can adjust the front height because it is height adjustable. I have not driven yet since spring change. I wonder what can be a problem. I used alfaholics fast road C kit. I checked the spring and pan, equally sitting both side. The ground is flat concrete and not tilted. I guess it may affect handling. Any suggestions? Please help.

Make sure the coil springs are seated correctly, if not, they will creak and thud, also make sure the left and right coil springs are not messed up, sometimes the drivers side coil is a bit longer or stiffer to compensate for drivers weight, so that when the average say 80 kilo driver is seated, the car is level, thats why on left hand drive cars, such as Alfa Romeo's the exhaust is on the opposite side to the driver, so that the exhaust that weighs about the same as the driver, and balances the car up, Colin.

Hi Colin,

The floor is leveled. The springs are identical, same length. I am not sure if the strength is deferent, but didn't mention that either was left or right. I may try to swap the sides and try fitting again tomorrow.

Thank you for your advice.

I have a similar problem with my GT Veloce, it was a while ago I looked into it, so I may have my facts a bit a bit skew whiff, but I think mine's due to having both left and right spring pans of the same height, I think the RHS is supposed to be deeper than the LHS. Others with greater knowledge of such things may be able to confirm/deny this. Anyway I went ahead and bought a deeper RH spring pan. Haven't put it in yet, but hoping that fixes the problem.

Sometimes the springs are longer overall on one side, other times, they are the same length, but slightly different wire diameters, even sometimes the spring seats may be thinner/thicker, Colin.

Hi Dave,

Are you talking about upper  or lower regarding spring pan. Mine appeared to be the same. Interestingly lower pan from the right side has a "notch" to accept the end of the spring, but the left doesn't. Also the upper pan fits well at the right side, but the left is appeared to be slightly floated? not just fit well. Do you think I can remove the shim from the left side to help lower the height?? Takanori...

Today I swapped the springs from left to right, removed the unknown shim from the left, then fixed :D
I don't know what was wrong ???, but now levelled and no height deference now.

Thank you for your inputs.
