I think I already know the answer to this and im afraid it's going to involve lots of $$$$$$
But I'm hoping someone may have some alternative advice.
If I have a only one key and it's the valet key with no remote fob and if the car (2003 156) has no key code card with the log books, what are my options if I want to get a key with the remote central locking functions. I have coming from the uk a second hand complete remote flip key but that obviously is not programmed for this car. I'm aware of course that this secondhand key blade is also incorrect for my car and a new blank needs to be re-cut and reprogrammed but I'm pretty sure they are available as a separate item.
I have looked through heaps of posts relating to keys both on this forum and several others, but none seem to addres my problem when there is no existing remote fob to work from.
Any ideas out there.........and if the only option is a dealer then what would I be expecting to pay?
Thanks in advance guys.

Get a quote off as many dealers as you can, go to the independant Alfa Specialists and try a Locksmith who does remotes as well as keys, for the past 15 years ALL cars have had remotes, and service places have learnt to deal with them, you are not Robinson Caruso only having one key, Colin.

Yes, well put Collin. I've started the chase already but not much luck so far from locksmiths. I found a reference on this forum from a few years back saying frankston locksmiths had the goods. I tried them and they knew nothing about alfa keys!!!
If anyone knows a reputable locksmith that might be able to help then I'd be keen to hear.
Otherwise I'll do as you suggest Collin and get quotes from a number of dealers. Would an overseas dealer be an option do you think?

I have had a new key made and recoded on a ...Commodore, they need the car to code the new key and fob to the body computer, i would say all cars are the same, it is more common  than you think, people loosing keys, Colin.

funniest thing

I've just had a new complete key/fob supplied and coded from Gold Coast Alfa. I had the key code but i believe they can still order it from your vin. All up was $270 for key and $110 for coding and the key took 4 weeks from Italy. ;D

In my opinion, thats quite a good price, about 2 years ago, average price for a VT Commodore was $250, have heard of Corollas costing $800, have seen them code the keys to computer, takes about 10 minutes, but you are paying for the software, good story, Colin.
