Thanks for the comments guys.  Trust me it isn't that much work 

The forum software hasn't changed much since we installed it in 2006, just security updates and patches.  It's about time I got off my butt and tested the upgrade to smf2.  I'm actually testing a migration to vbulletin, which would allow for user image galleries and much expanded profiles - but having trouble getting it to migrate attachments and avatars correctly...

Us IT workers......are great at making/saying simple things out to be more complicated that what they are  + also making an absolute meal of simple things at other times
