Steady-cam?

Totally off-topic.  I was looking at the cheaply priced steady-cams on ebay (the device that stabilises an image as you are walking around shooting video).  There are units for under $100 that seem pretty cool.  I was thinking of shooting on a DSLR.  The pro units run into the $thousands... wondering how good a cheap one could be.

Waste of money or a fun toy?
