hi all,

im currently restoring my 105 and need some technical assistance.

i am in the process of replacing my original wiper motor which was the old 3 wire system with
the new 4 wire wiper motor. However, i am a little confused as to how to go about wiring in the new motor.

i have read that a diode is needed but im not sure why and where it needs to go. Is there anyone who has had to replace their wiper motor? and figured out how?

if so could you please expalin to me which wires go where the diode needs to go?

any help i can get would be greatly appreciated

Not the answer to your question, but a good place to start and some good info and diagrams

Thanks Craig. Had a look at the link, but the info has more to do with switches. I'd really like to keep the original switches and just figure out how to rewire the new motor.

I can provide the following info which might help someone explain how to wire the new motor:

New 4 wire motor wires: grey, blue, blue/black and white

Original 3 wires from the loom: red, green and white/black

Wire to switch: blue/black, blue/white and blue

I'm too scared to try the old "put the wires anywhere and see how it goes" in fear of blowing the wiper motor.

The last post in that link has a PDF to an original Alfa tech bulletin outlining the wiring differences  between the three and four wire motors.

Perhaps sub it out to a sparky.. Or one of the smart people in here  :)

Thanks craig, any leads you can provide me with will certainly go a long way in figuring out how to wire this new motor.

I used the wiring diagram you suggested and had a go at wiring the new motor today. My switch didn't have the numbered contact points they suggested to use, so just played around with different combinations.

I can get high speed, low speed working ...but I can't get the park feature to work. When I place the switch in the off position, the wipers just stop and don't return "neutral" position?

I have to wait for the arms to return back down to neutral....and quickly flick the switch off.....

any ideas on how to get the park feature to work?

At the moment I have 3 wires going to the motor, but don't know where the remaining 4th wire from the motor needs to go......  :-\

So, the way it parks is it powers the 4th wire when you switch the wipers off - powers the motor through a contact wiper segment that ends when it hits the park position

You little beauty!!....I now have a working wiper motor with high/low speed and return!!

Thanks to everyone who has helped out - WOW....its great to see that are people out there willing to help a newbie like me get my 105 back on the road.

I provided power to the 4th wire as suggested and it worked....(note: A diode is needed for this to actually work)

I'm happy to pass on this information to anyone else who is trying to install a 4 wire wiper motor to their existing 3 wire loom..... :D
