Alternative to original arm rest/door pull

Have other 105 owners, perhaps more so those with GTV 2000's, swapped over the original 2000 arm rest/door pull to the GTA style?

Can it actually be done? Im sure it would be far to convenient that the measurements between my '74 arm rest and a GTA would be the same. If not I guess I can mount it in a place that I want.

The look I am going for is similar to this...

Nice and clean, I dont actually rest my arm on the door anyway. I have new door trims and wanted perhaps look at this before putting the originals on.

Thoughts? Anyone else done this?

I too am headed down this route.

The picture you've got shown though uses the chrome stripped door pull - the Classic Alfa one is totallly different. With both the end caps and the pull itself.

Shouldn't be that hard to modify to fit - just check the bolt space on the original door pull and then compare to the grab handle you're looking to buy - I think I have one at home I can measure for you. Then you might need to drill holes in the door frame to bolt it all up.

The GTA replicas that Alfaholics have are nice - but they are expensive@ 500pounds the pair.. http://www.alfaholics.com/2011/08/alfaholics-gta-inner-door-closing-strap-3/

This would the finsihed product on my doors - just another variant on your image.

Hey Pancho....yeah any help would be great.

Id did see the ones on alfaholics and to be blunt they are crazy asking that price, im sure it would be nice on a genuine GTA but for me its a bit much to pay for some straps. I do admit they look very nice.

As a side note I was surprised to see the door arm/rest/pull was not actually connected to the sheet metal at all. I guess the wood is strong enough?

Yes, very expensive @ $770 a pair.

Wood ? You means the door cards ? I think they are pressed cardboard. I'd be surprise if the later door grabs are not somehow bolted to the door frame ? On a stepnose there is a plate that bolts/rivets to the door frame and then the handle is bolted to this.

While not, perhaps, the tidiest of cars,  I've just done this on my early super doors  - they have a long door handle on the fronts that are getting pretty hard to find - but I've wanted to put pulls on for ages...  There were actually holes in the door frame that weren't too far off where I eventually drilled to fit these (which are just the overhead passenger grab handles from some 105 coupes)

My door cards are shot and barely hold themselves on, let alone a door handle - you definitely want to get them bolted to the door metal...

From a few pics Sheldon took at Winton on Sunday....

Hi mate - I actually ended up picking the pair up off ebay from another club member who had the same idea but then sold the car.

However I know that Milano's in thomastown have a box of them floating around - and I'm sure Hugh at Monza would have some about as well - every 105 coupe comes with one.     you can get them in white as well as black (and maybe red ? )             A similar handle is used on the convertible top of spiders (probably the same but not sure)

You should get the strap (rubber with a metal strap inside)    two alloy pieces (per strap)  each with two holes that screw down at either end,  and the slide on end caps that go over them to finish it.

For the door cards,  I've used some 5mm thick plastic sheet (soft plexiglass type stuff in place of the card / plywood) cut to shape with a jigsaw  before with great success - no worries about water getting in and takes the trim staples happily.   Not sure if we got it from bunnings last time or not (a good while ago)

Cheers,

Scott.
