Hi all,
As I mentioned in my last post, my 156 TS selespeed has some serious problems. The selespeed is leaking fluid, and the clutch needs fixing. I'm looking at over $3000. I've been told that the whole selespeed needs reconditioning for a leak. My question is, does anyone know if there's any other way? I've heard rumours that there are many problems with the selespeed that can be fixed without taking on the whole unit. Any help would be much appreciated - as well as any suggestions for mechanics.
Thanks,
Jason
There is cheaper alternatives pointed out in this forum previously, know that Dehne was mentioning some interchangeable parts with fiat, best advice search through previous articles in this forum and make sure u are getting experienced and advice,as a lot of mechanics could not be bothered with fixing the problem, they seek the easy way out and change the whole mechanism where in fact it could be only part faulty and maybe calibration might help.
Hi Jason
You say that the sele is leaking, I have been told that there are two types of leaks. One where you can see the fluid on the ground and another where it pools in the system. Can you describe each problem you are having and then it may be easier to help figure out the cause.
Thanks for the advice lombardi. I've had a look through the forums, but it's been hard to dig much up, as I'm a bit short of time at the moment. I'm getting the clutch done now, but will wait a bit on the selespeed to get advice here. Dehne, I'll check on this to make sure, but I'm pretty sure it's pooling in the system. Is that enough detail?
Firstly, welcome to the addiction. Your problems will be resolved as soon you find a specialist mechanic you trust. I have owned many Alfas over many years and highly recommend Auto Italia in Morley. Most of the little specialist shops are good - they have to be.
Neil is right. the work absolutely has to be undertaken by an Alfa specialist and we are blessed with some great ones in Perth.
