Title: New gtv6 race car near completion
Post by: Dna Dave on July 02, 2013, 12:45:31 AM
Almost completed my latest project, face lift gtv6 to race with the VRA group, I've been out of racing for a while, so looking forward to getting back out there.

Does anyone know where I can get a boss kit for my Sparco steering wheel, can't seem to find one anywhere.

Thanks

David

Dave,

That looks excellent mate. Can you share any details of the car? Is it log booked as a 2F production sports car?

Can't wait to see how it performs.

A few of us up here in Qld have been discussing stripping out 2 litre 156s for cheap racing but these front wheel drive GTV6s are pretty inexpensive to buy now too.

Cheers,

Brent

Brent,

Having raced my 156 gta for a few years I know how good these cars can be on the track.

It's being logged as a 3J improved production, minimum weight of 1285kg, have to run standard engine and throttle body, I put the Alfaholics front pipe and 2.5" exhaust from cat back, with standard cat. Running Q2, adjustable Koni's with upgraded springs, DS300 race pads, and that's about it.

Gave its a wheel alignment and took it to Wakefield for a shake down, I was quite happy with it out of the box.

Value for money as a track car, it's hard to beat, the way I see it, if an engine or gearbox lets go, it's a call to Alfamotive, and throw a replacement in for really not that much.

And if set up properly they are FUN on the track,

David

Fantastic Dave. 1285kg is certainly no lightweight but with 240hp or thereabouts and plenty of torque is should be able to mix it with the group S/group N cars in the VRA camp.

Best of luck with it mate. I'll be keeping a keen eye out to see how you go.

Cheers,

Brent

That look great!  Isn't it good to see the modern Alfa's coming into club sport like this; there was a 156 at the recent Vic club sprint at Broadford that looked sensational.  And aren't they great value, these GTV V6's particularly.  I just did a quick search on carsales and they list 10, 5 of them under $10k albeit early 3.0 ones.  Still.....

If someone was looking at building one, don't be put off by the early 3L ones, I've driven a few that feel just as strong as a 3.2L, plus the 5 speed gearbox is stronger.

Guys,

My 916gtv will be debuting next Saturday at Eastern creek in the VRA races, which is part of the FOSC.
Should be a good day with a field of around 20 alfa's inc a 147 gta, and modern type gt, many 105's and 116's v6's and 4's,.

I will be happy to have a trouble free day being the cars first real shake down and my first race in 7 years.

Happy to have a chat.

David

I'll agree with this. The Phase 1 5 speed cars also seem to have better throttle response (the latter 6 speed cars are drive-by-wire). The first 4 ratio's are identical in the 5 and 6 speed with the 5th gear on the 5 speed sitting somewhere between the 5th and 6th on the 6 speed.

Well done Dave ... I'd love to see & hear how this runs on the track. Looks great !!!

Hi DNADave,
Not sure if the boss kit is the same as the 156/147 but I got my bits from here which included the resistor to keep airbag light from lighting up (perhaps not an issue for you):
