Title: Gated shifter
Post by: Fred4007 on February 19, 2015, 12:31:27 AM
Would it be possible to get a gated shifter base for my sprint?

I doubt it.

Make one. Use cardboard first to make it in 2 peices [top half and bottom half], then trace it onto cardboard again to make a single piece one. Once you get it right, get some steel, bronze or aluminium and trace onto that for final cutout.

Might want to get rid of all the shifter slop with new bushes etc first though.

Anything is possible, about 20 years ago a Toolmaker in the Alfa Club had a gated shifter in his Alfetta, seemed to work allright.
As the bushes, synchro's, cones, forks, shifter rods wear out the gate will have to be opened up and modified.
But a good project, and it gives it a Ferrari look, Colin.

Do it yourself at school, so you can be proud of saying i made it.
Make sure your gearbox and engine mounts are new, so the gearlever won't be floppin around all over the place, also check to see that the gearbox 'hanger' mount is correctly positioned, Colin.
