Post by: diavlo on August 29, 2008, 12:40:27 PM
After owning my first alfa for just 6 weeks i have learnt that Alfas are like women " unreliable and cost a lot to maintain". DISCLAIMER "No offense to female forum readers or any women as a matter of fact"

Anyways last Sunday night i got into my 166 V6 3.0l, after dinner. when i started the car it came up with "air conditioner faulty" i have been to check whether it needs gas and its fine. any suggestions???

cheers

I've heard of messages coming up like that for no discernable reason.

I'd say don't worry about it - its confused.

On the 166 there is a small grill to the left hand side of the steering wheel. Behind this grill is a small sensor with a small fan. This is the interior temperature sensor, once you pull the grill off get a damp cotton bud and clean the sensor of all the grime , fluff and dust. This sensor can cause the Air-conditioner faulty message and a quick clean of it may solve your problem.

If you get a message with "Air Conditioner faulty see your service agent" or something like that. It is most probably the Pollen filter. This is located under the bonnet under a plastic cover close to the windscreen. They are able to be cleaned several times before replacing.

A few questions then.

So how long do they last for and is this a service item ?
I would assume that they are inspected and replaced if necessary when being serviced ?
Are aftermarket ones available that we or Alfa Specialists can buy?

Cheers
