Title: New Fuel pump for 3.2 Brera?
Post by: Mark Carlton on March 17, 2025, 01:19:19 PM
Can anyone suggest where I might find a suitable new replacement in-tank fuel pump for a 3.2 Brera? Any help appreciated.

It's obviously an expensive piece everywhere, I'd be looking for alternatives or having yours rebuilt.  At the very least pull it out, test it, clean it and any filters and tank evaporation valves (pressure relief etc).

Thanks for those tips!

Unfortunately it's just not worth trying to repair/refurbish the fuel pumps in these, as the biggest problem with them is the plastic crown fracturing due to stress & old age.

You could also give Italian Automotive Spares in Melbourne a call.

Thanks guys, next week I will fit a new pump and see if it does away with the intermittent "fuel starvation" symptoms...

Ahhhhh, have you had the problem checked by an alfa specialist yet?

What makes you think the fuel starvation issue is being caused by the in tank fuel pump? I'm not saying it isn't the in tank pump, but fuel starvation can also be caused by a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or the high pressure fuel pump mounted on the engine.

Thanks for the follow up Bazzbazz. Yes my alfa guy thinks this is a good place to start. And particularly considering the following forum thread where it seems many others have had very similar issues:

"A good place to start" and referencing a thread online makes alarm bells go off in my head.

May I suggest before purchasing a new in tank pump you first confirm your "Alfa guy" has done a diagnostic on the car and measured both the pressure from the in tank pump is a constant 5-6 Bar and the pressure from the High Pressure Pump (Fuel Pressure Measured) consistently follows the pressure that the engine requires (Fuel Pressure Calculated) while the engine is being run/driven (between 6 & 120 Bar). This should confirm where the issue lies.

However, if both check out then start with the in tank pump.

As mentioned before, not saying it's not the in tank pump, but better to make sure first, if possible.

Yes that's a good point. It's my understanding that the pressure from the tank pump drops when the issue arises. I guess we'll find out soon...
