Queensland / Alfa Romeo Guiletta Handbrake ...
Last post by james_bairn - November 02, 2024, 08:32:24 PM
HI there

I am quite new to Maintenace and repairs, so my knowledge isn't the most extensive when it comes to more specific questions. Currently, my handbrake in my Guilletta does not stay up when trying to pull the handbrake. I don't feel any clicks, and it will just fall down when I pull it up. The actual button does spring back up when i press it, and the handbrake does work when holding it up, it just doesn't stay up. I've seen some advice about having to tighten the cable, but I was hoping anyone had some insight into how to start troubleshooting what the issue could be. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated

940 Series (Giulietta, Mito and 4C) / Re: Giulietta Brakes

Hi Colin
Many thanks for your help and advice. It may be my imagination, but I think that it is worse in dynamic mode, as you suggest. It also happens sometime after I have released the throttle, and I am attempting to make a smooth stop (i.e. at traffic lights). It can really grab in that final little push to bring the car to a stop. I don't know if my 1.4 has the prefill, although it is the same engine as in the Fiat current Spider, so it may. I have found a very Alfa-literate mechanic in Cairns, who has extensive experience with Alfas and in particular the Giulietta, he is taking a look next week. I will mention those things to him.

Hi alfaricho,
"Google" Alfa Romeo brake pre-fill.
If you get out of the accelerator very quickly, the control system assumes your next action will be to hit the brakes so the brake pre-fill kicks in.  Is this what is happening?  Is it "worse" in Dynamic mode? Does the car track straight ahead when you brake hard or does it pull to one side initially?
The last Giulietta's we had were all 1750 QV's or Veloces with the big Brembos.  These all had brake pre-fill.  I always left foot brake on a 2 pedal car.  We got used to the brake response very quickly.  That what I liked the most with the QV / Veloce - great brakes!
Soft sole shoes can help.  Maybe take it to an Alfa specialist for a second opinion?

General Discussion / Window Tinting recommendation
Last post by Olschool - October 31, 2024, 01:39:57 AM
Hi all, I wanted to share with members a positive experience with a local business in Melbourne's south east.
Alex Kim is owner and sole operator of FM7 Window Tinting in Clayton Sth. From discussing possibilities, pricing and booking the car in ,to meeting Alex on the day and finally seeing the end product I must say he is a pleasure to deal with. His knowledge of his craft, quality and impeccably clean showroom-workshop and high standards of workmanship and final product I found rare, and surprisingly refreshing.

940 Series (Giulietta, Mito and 4C) / Re: Timing belt gone

Hi Baz, OMG I rather suspected that. We once had a terrific Alfa man in Cairns (John Mitchell) but he has moved down south. He always insisted that the belts be changed as per the book, my "new" replacement garage is just a general garage, and the guy did inspect the belt during a routine service, but I doubt he could see much of it. I need to find a more reliable garage! We no longer have an Alfa specialist locally. Thanks for the advice.

If the belt has never actually been changed and your mechanic is aware of this then you need to find another garage, seriously!

There is a reason why belt changes are given both mileage and age limitations, as belts don't just wear, they also age and dry out/become brittle over time, resulting in failure. The maximum listed time frame for timing belt change on a 2015 Giulietta is either 4 or 6 years depending on conditions. At best, your car is 3 years overdue.

Tick, tick, tick . . . . .  :o

Hi MadAlfa, very sorry to hear about your sad incident. do you know when the timing belt was last changed, either in terms of kilometres or years? I would say find the cheapest option of getting your Alfa on the road again, it will then have a tangible value, whether you wish to part with it or keep it.
I have just bought a very nice Alfa Giulietta with only 20,000 km on the clock. However, it is a 2015 car, and I am sure that the timing belt has never been changed. My garage says, "it's fine", but I don't want to suffer your experience!
