Another wheel size/offset question

Apologies in advance for another wheel size question, I had a search but can't find an answer.

Having said that, I don't think I'm going to be in luck with this one...

I've come across a set of 17x7.5 4x98 wheels "locally", and was wondering whether they're a chance of fitting my 78 2.0 gtv. The offset/ET is only 15, which has me thinking they'll probably be a bit too far inboard. Has anyone tried to fit something of a similar size? Unfortunately they're not local enough that I could just do a test-fit.

Thanks in advance.

I'd be more worried that they'd be too far out of the guards if they're 7.5 and ET15.
I'm running 16x7.5 ET30 on one of mine and I wouldn't want them poking out any further (see pic below).
Also, 17" wheels might make your gtv look a bit like a rollerskate. Even an open pattern 16" can look pretty wrong (to me, at least)

Thanks mate, I think you're right. I wasn't really looking to put 17's on the car, they just popped up on marketplace for a good price.

It's got 14's on it at the moment, so I was thinking 15 or 16 would be the go. Yours looks just about right 👍

If you get really desperate (or you just miss the early 90s) I've got a set of these in 15" that you're welcome to  ;D

😄 they look like an aspect of the early 90's I'd rather not revisit

Thanks though.

I have been reading up on wobble bolts. They're not as frightening as they sound, and they bring 4x100 bolt pattern wheels into the picture

Wobble bolts won't help on an Alfetta, because they have wheel studs.

Cool, thanks. That gives me a bit more choice then.

I'm thinking 16x7 as per old mate's car above would be the go 👍

Hi Paulos,
I have 15x9 Simmons V5 Rims fitted to my GTV.
Tyre size is 225/50R15.
I had 1984 Simmons 3P Rims same age as the GTV.
These rims were originally 15 x 12 (tyre size 255) and they just touched the wheel well inner side panel.
I refurbished these rims and changed the inner rim section from 170mm to 135mm so I can fit 225 tyres.
(I don't know how to attach photos on this system)
Fits perfect  :)
