Have been checking the bonnet release cable on the Junior as use of lever under the cable was not leaving me feeling confident.
Glad i did as the cable is frayed at the lever. The cable to lever attachment (or lack of) is not great and the angle it comes in at is causing the fraying. There is no slack in the cable to get it any closer.....maybe its not the right length cable
From the engine bay side i was initially not convinced that the cable was going through the fire wall in the right place. The hole looked rough (drilled) and another hole closer to the catch looked more right (it has a grommet !). The cable sheath is wearing at the hole too.
A new cable is on order, so i'm checking to see if the current one is installed correctly or not.
Having now googled some engine bay pics, they all seem to show the bonnet cable going through the fire wall closer to the LHS bonnet hinge, pretty much where mine currently does.
Have attached some pics - woud be great if anyone could shed some light.

Cable looks way too short, looks like it's coming in the correct place though, i'm pretty sure the cable should tuck up under the bonnet lip, and I thought there are some little holders spot welded to the firewall to hold it there
