Hey all,
I have some questions about rego (historic) in NSW.
I have 2 x GTV6's , well one genuine 86 GTV6 GP , and a 81 GTV 2L that had a 2.5L V6 dropped into it years before i bought it.
When i first got them i had them both registered and loved every second of it until it started to cost a small fortune to have them both registered and fully insured along with my wifes car.
Our family grew and grew and i decided we could not afford to have all these cars and try to raise kids and a mortgage, so i made the decision to take both Alfa's off the road with plans to install a 164 3L 12V into the 81 model .(never actually happened- i got a motor to put in and got as far as pulling out the 2.5L) and that is where i am at almost 10 years later.
In one way i am happy that the Grand Prix has been wrapped in blankets sleeping all this time and increased in value. But i have now decided it is time to pull my finger out and re-register one or both and drive the damn things (you dont understand how bad it feels not to drive one for soooo long) well maybe you guy's do understand (especially after reading and seeing all those reviews and vidz about those 4C ).
So i am undecided what to do rego wise, I was thinking of either putting the 2.5L straight back into he 81 and trying to get a blue slip and full rego, or due to it's age maybe trying for historic rego, or get the blue slip for the GP and put it on full rego and when it turns 30 next June change it to Historic.
The GP should not need much work to get back on the road as it did not have any issues when i took it off the road, I am thinking new fuel ,oil , coolant filters and i really should do a timing belt due to time left sitting.
The 81 I would love to just drop the old motor straight back in , but it was a little smokey when i took it off the road and i really should do some more to that whilst i have it out.
Anyone have some ball park figures on a very basic 2.5L REBUILD, Thinking maybe valve seals and possibly rings and gaskets ? I am no mechanic but have done a fair bit in the past myself and with help of uncles and such , so i am willing to try to do as much work as i can myself.
Any help ,advice or info much appreciated

personally for what its worth I would either put the 3.0 ltr in or the original 2.0 ltr and tune it
For me the 2.5 had the noise but thats about it, never been a lover of the 2,5 ( correction I did when it first came out )

You may run into problems trying to put the modified '81 on club rego with the V6 under the bonnet.

MMM, was thinking about that last night after reading some more into it, I may just try to save up for a bit longer and go back on normal rego with the 81 and wait for june 2016 for the historic rego on the GP.
I guess that would make the 81 more fun as i could drive it when ever i felt like ,without any restrictions that come with historic rego.
