So the splined section on my rear prop shaft is getting a bit "worn" (it has had a pretty hard life!) i've had the entire prop shaft balanced a few years ago so there are no bad vibrations, even at terminal velocity, but when i grab hold of the tail shaft after the splined section, i can feel alot of freeplay.

Both Classic Alfa and Alfaholics advertise new ones, the classic alfa one is said to be just a standard new one, the Alfaholics one is advertised as being stronger, lighter, better uni joints ect, ect. but also %30 more expensive  Just wondering if anyone has had experience with these parts, or perhaps there is a local option?

cheers

You can get new slip joints fitted at any decent drive shaft place.  I had it done many times years ago but can't recall what it cost except that it was expensive.

Thanks Rowan
yea figured that would be an option, but at around $425 (AUD) + delivery, the Classic Alfa shaft is reasonably priced, considering you get 2 new uni joints as well.

So Was going through some of my spares the other night and came across a rear prop shaft with the splines in really  good condition!, so will probably just get that balanced up.  I'd like to just do a full change over so was wondering if anyone has a spare front tail shaft section lying around (needs to be the 9mm bolt version)?
cheers

Hi Colin,
I replaced the rear section of my 73 2000 spider about 2 years ago because of worn splines. I bought the Classic Alfa shaft and uni joints. I can't advise about the Alfaholics, but, the Classic Alfa one I got was smaller in shaft diameter, and I didn't expect that as it wasn't advertised as such. I spoke to Classic Alfa who advised it was improved , stronger and lighter. I put the shaft in and it ran perfectly. At the time it was the best option and I'm glad I did it. Cheers
