Hi All,

I'm in the process of planning a move from key start to push button start in my track car.

Whilst its a relatively logical process I'm keen to hear from anyone who's done it before ...

Any specific complexities I should know about?

Cheers

Nick

It's very straight forward. Just make sure the momentary switch is capable of handling the current of the starter motor consistently.

Duk

Momentary push button, switching a conventional automotive relay that then powers the starter's solenoid.

The ideal switch should have twin independently operated normally open contacts.  These should be wired in series in case one of the contacts welds closed. Wring the contacts in series also doubles the circuit breaking / arc breaking capability.

The switch MUST have a DC rating - this is critical.  Many AC rated switches will not interrupt DC current into an inductive load.
