TDC mark doesn't seem to correspond to TDC at piston #1...

Sounds like your on the money johnl. I'm sure the little 147 will be much happier with its new owner now.  ;)

The engine is certainly happier now. I'm not convinced that outright pedal to the floor performance is much better, a bit I think, but the partial throttle performance is definitely improved, the engine just 'pulls' more eagerly on a lighter throttle opening.

It's looking like fuel economy may have improved too. Previously it was averaging about 8.4 L/100km (dashboard indicated, not actually checked properly), and now it's averaging 7.7 L/100km.

I wouldn't be unhappy with better economy, and was sorta kinda hoping this could potentially be an affect of correcting the timing, so I could possibly be driving a bit differently hoping to see it, i.e. there may be a placebo like effect at work here. Time will tell, lets see what the longer term average is after the timing change has receded in memory...
