Halle Loohlia a Newbie comment but a Goodie comment. Why bother! with the current quality of the show is exactly right, when the original is on most of the time now or is on DVD or downloadable. Whilst many on this site have made the point that the early shows of the UK version may have been a bit rough around the edges and not as slick as the current shows, they are still streaks ahead of whats currently being trawled out by the Aussie version.

With the comment above about comparing Italian machinery, the Aussie guys even stuffed that up on the few occassions they got the Italian exotics to review.

Aussie Top Gear is terrible. They had a chance to make it specific for the Australian market and make some demographic changes to the hosts and they failed. Instead they tried to rehash the combination of 3 middle aged - old men using their smarts to comment on cars except the 3 people they picked for the Australian show have no charisma or passion - forget about how genius you are if you have no charisma - nobody will listen unless you can entice them no matter how much knowledge you have to share!

Instead of copying the English version directly, the Aussie version should have (in my humble opinion) sought after 3 vastly different people from different motoring backgrounds - one experienced and modern engineer type person with thorough knowledge and a passion for new vehicles with superior technology; one younger person with a passion for speed, in whatever brand of vehicle it comes in - Ford GT, Supra, Ferrari - not necessarily someone who knows a lot about details other than reading a spec sheet so people can connect with the younger audience; and finally someone with an obvious bias towards a classic car - i.e. an Alfa, a Lancia, Maserati, Rolls royce.

I know you still retain a clarkson, hammond, may feel with the above but more important than anything is charisma of the presenters and the aussie top gear presenters were so bland i'd rather watch paint dry...

I watched the russian version of Top Gear the other day on you-tube. It was heaps better than the aussie version. Just make sure you watch the one with sub-titles.

I would rather watch Aussie Top Gear than last nights re-run that is 7 years old. Correction, I would rather watch re-runs of Aussie Top Gear than last nights 7 year old episode. Ya gotta love smashin' some Suzuki down the sand dunes and Aussie muscle cars. Let er rip Charlie. (or blow your trumpet James Morrison)

Gaz Bla Bla, I think this thread has certainly gone against that view and we have already more than discussed the what you would prefer to watch thing and it aint the stuff your talking about in such glowing terms.

Whilst I would like to point out that this is my opinion, I am not sure why anyone would want to watch those bunch of losers but if they jank your chain go for it and we all support your right to.

I think I'll keep on downloading and watching the real show, although I may also have a go at watching the Russian one and Spieret I won't worry if I can't find the subtitle version, the non subtitle version will still be better than the Aussie one, in fact comparable because I can't understand the Aussie one either!

SBS is not forcing you to watch the programme you know.  Most TVs have an off switch.

Oh and by the way, the topic of this thread is "So What do you Reckon of Top Gear Australia?", not "This is What I think of Top Gear Australia, if you don't agree you must be mentally deranged".

Aussie top gear is bland and terrible. The presenters are just uninteresting and have no charisma.

Ancient history, lets see what James Morrison has to offer, he's pretty good as a rule.
Vale Peter Wherrett, he told it like it was, way before anyone else did.
