Selespeed issue

Greetings all,

So I have Multiscan and everything is dialled in. I changed the clutch master cylinder fluid about a year ago.

When the car is cold (and it's very cold here first thing in Ballarat) the car shifts crisply and precisely.

When the engine oil/coolant are up to normal operating temperature the shifting becomes slower and there
's often some clutch drag (like someone driving a traditional manual with lazy left foot). It's generally worse at lighter throttle.

If I need to reverse uphill (oil/coolant at full operating temperature) there's heaps of clutch slip if you don't put a fair bit of slipper into the accelerator pedal which is rather disconcerting and possibly dangerous...

And so...

Am I running out of clutch or, is the clutch slave cylinder piston starting to bind up a bit (because it's about to let go...) through clutch fluid/heat expansion when the engines at full operating temperature?

Any advice appreciated.

Have you tried re-calibrating the actuator, then switching off car for 90 seconds, then re-calibrating the Clutch, then switching off for 90 seconds? (This all should be done when the car is at operating temp)

Whats the mileage on the car?

Thanks for the response Bazz. Yes I have but I didn't shut the motor down between clutch/actuator calibrations. I'll do that tomorrow.

Brera has 150,000k's.

Vas's advice is exactly what I would do with those symptoms. Sounds like a calibration issue

So I attempted to carry out the Production/Service final calibration at operating temperature. I got the message 'COMPLETED' 'Error due to absence of suitable conditions'. I've now checked the battery voltage (13.75), the selespeed fluid is full and I've changed the fluid and bled the clutch master cylinder. I'm still getting the same message when I try to run the calibration.

There are no error codes stored in the engine or gearbox.

Any advice/ideas as to where to from here much appreciated.

Can you get it to do the clutch calibration  or any other calibrations?

Yes Bazz. I've now run the 'clutch drain' operation and the 'clutch self calibration enable' successfully. I've tried the 'Production/Service final calibration' again with the same message/
result as before.

I'm running a registered version of MES 4.5

there will be a reason why it wont run the calibration. it could be engine or gearbox temp, system pressure. there are a whole bunch of conditions. from memory my software tells me what the conditions are (and the software can also separately tell me what my car is reporting) so I can see what the missing condition is.

I don't have the car or laptop with me so I can't check at the moment.

Does the car change gears through the range with engine off & key on?

Yes it does; up to 6 and back down to 1.

Ok, may I suggest disconnecting the battery overnight, reconnecting in the morning and taking it for a drive to see how she goes.

So I did that overnight. Just went for a drive and all shifting appears to be perfect...?...
Evidently there's some magic to discharging the system...
