ANDREW PAPADOPOULOS ELECTED NEW CAMS PRESIDENT

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport can confirm that Andrew Papadopoulos has been elected to the position of President for a term of two years, effective 1 January 2009.

Papadopoulos takes the Presidency after current President Colin Osborne decided not to nominate for re-election after serving on the CAMS Board since 1990, serving as President for the past seven and a half years.

Papadopoulos has held a position on the CAMS Board almost continuously since 2001 and is currently one of two Vice-Presidents, is Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee and is a founding board member of the Australian Institute of Motor Sport Safety.

"I am honoured that the Board has entrusted me with the position of President," said Papadopoulos.

"We have some major challenges facing our organisation but with our focus on service delivery and consultation with our stakeholders and members I am looking forward to leading our organisation into a confident future.

"On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank Colin Osborne for his leadership as President for the last seven and a half years and look forward to his continued involvement in the organisation."

Papadopoulos is a former Vice-President of the Australian Racing Drivers Club and a Life Member of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club of Australia. Having been involved in motorsport for over thirty years, Papadopoulos is a current competitor in Sports Sedans and also has experience in classic car rallying.

The Papadopoulos family has extensive involvement in motorsport, with Andrew's wife Janice an organiser and senior official, son Mark a fellow Sports Sedans competitor and son Christopher an engineer with the Renault F1 Team in the United Kingdom.

Papadopoulos also brings extensive commercial and business knowledge to the Presidency, working in marketing in London and the public sector in Sydney before establishing his own pallet manufacturing, recycling, repairing and marketing firm, which is now in its 23rd year of operation.

The CAMS Board has also elected Bob Glindemann and Bob Piper to the positions of Vice President for 2009. Glindemann and Piper join Papadopoulos in leading the organisation in 2009.
