Well I thought we had better get some pics up of the car now this section is up and running - fantastic.  This is the first car we will build with the second car sometime early next year.  I have puts pics of it in another thread.

This one of course looks nice and shiny however it of course covered up a number of both expected and unexpected problems.  The front right guard was pretty bad so we ended up replacing the whole front end (front guards and radiator support panel) with that from a donor car.  The shell has been stripped and seam welded with the cage going in at the moment.  I will put more pics up as the car progresses.

Final prep of the interior....a little more to do then the cage goes in.

The car then goes onto a rotisserie and the underneath is cleaned and welded.  Final prep and then the whole thing is off for paint.  Red with a white nose.

Scott,

Surely you could have sourced some good (even new) Weber 45s locally?

Some of the Sydney guys are looking at moving up to Weber 48s (like the Group N boys.) Where will it end ...  :o
1974 2000 GT Veloce (Le Mans Blue) - Restoration project
1975 Alfetta GT (Periwinkle Blue Metallic) - Group S racer - Sold!
2009 147 Monza 3Dr (Kyalami Black) - Don't ask!
2010 VW Passat R36 Wagon (Biscay Blue) - Daily Driver
2015 VW Golf GTI Performance (Night Blue) - Wife's Runabout

Pricing in the US was very good - better than here.  They have arrived and are very good. Yes, I have though of 48's but they are so much more expensive and harder to source.

Hey Scott, 45 Webers??.... do we have a bit of lack of communication here??!
I understood that we were talking 48s all along and the porting/valves sizes etc on your head have been done with this in mind. The flow testing and final detailing has been done with 48carb/42 choke to get the last bit right. This is the combination Ive used on all the 2lts pushing up around 200hp @7300rpm (best 211hp). 45s with 40 chokes will knock about 15 hp off the top end potential. I have new 48s at hand if you want, sourcing is not such a problem.
The new batch of Alfetta torsion bars is underway now.
Cheers,Vin.

Well Vin, if Scott doesnt want em, i might take them as i am collecting my Group S project GTV on sunday and will start collecting bits for it over coming months with a view to having it ready later next year or at least sprintable.

Failing that, i could always put em on my sprint :P

Thanks Vin - I will call to discuss.

Yes the 48s (and 45s for that matter) are easier to source new however they are just harder to source 2nd hand.  45s are about $400 to $500 each second hand.

Congrats Ed - that is great news!!  The category is really building.  We want pics after you pick it up.

Weber DCOE 45s would be great in a boxer engine - except that the petrol would all fall out :-)

Ed make sure to start a new topic with some initial photos of your project car so everyone can follow your progress...

i will put up a photo or 2 shortly but that'll be where it stops for a while.
I want to CH reg it for a while but to do that it needs a new motor (head has been worked and it has extractors) and a rear seat cos i aint allowed to work on it until the sprint  has been sold  ::)

You've got to be careful talking like that about your Sprint - it'll get in a huff and expire at Winton next weekend!  Don't hurt a ladies feelings...

We should stop hijacking Scott's thread now...
