Fuel filler neck hose replacement

I've been chasing a fuel smell, and thought I should check the condition of the filler neck hose seeing as I'd recently found splits in my other one's hose.

It's seen better days, that's for sure

The hoses are NLA, they're 57mm ID with a 45° bend right at the end.
I checked a few catalogues and found a Gates 24713 universal filler neck hose that would just need trimming to size.
I found one on ebay for about $65. Note - the Mackay UHB57-300 is listed as an equivalent part by some places and is cheaper, but it is a radiator hose and not designed for fuel!

Cut to size using a stanley knife

Installation is pretty easy if you remove the 4 external screws holding the filler neck to the body.

New and hopefully less stinky hose installed:

...but that means you also get the blame if it doesn't fix the fuel smell ;)

Hi Festy, really interested to see how this goes, as it's on my to do list as well. I've held off pulling the trigger due to many threads talking about only using tube rated for low permeation.

The Gates 24713 is a fuel filler neck hose, so I assume it should do the job.

From Gates' catalog:
Designed specifically for auxiliary gas tanks on recreational vehicles.
Excellent replacement for passenger cars and trucks where a straight
hose with a minimal bend is required.
∫ Suitable for use with gasoline, gasohol blends of ethanol, methanol, ethers,
diesel and biodiesel to B20 (up to maximum concentrations allowed by EPA).
∫ Smooth oil resitant cover, tough textile cord reinforcement and petroleum-resistant
nitrile tube.
∫ Non-wire reinforced.
∫ Meets SAE 30R6 specifications.
∫ Temperature rating: - 40ºF to 212ºF (-40ºC to +100ºC)
∫ Biodiesel (B20) Temperature rating: - 40ºF to 212ºF (-40ºC to +51ºC)

I haven't driven it since replacing the hose, but it's been over 30 here every day lately and my garage doesn't stink of petrol so its already an improvement :)

Cool, looks like a winner. Can you check the Gates part number? I suspect it's 24713 for a 45 deg 2.25inch diam hose.

Yep, good catch thanks - no idea how I managed to get it wrong so many times in this thread :)
