Hi all,

HELP!!

I ordered a replacement window winder (cable type) for my 1750 coupe.
Fitted it easily enough as follows:
- Glass in raised position
- Winder wound to upper limit
- Attached cable fixing plates
Problem.  When I lower the window, I get 3.5 turns out of the winder.  This leaves about 2 inches of window protruding from the door frame.  ???
A check of the passenger side window reveals I get an extra turn from the winder.

I removed the winder and checked the cable run (around its pulley-gear).  All seems ok with no crossing of the cable.  Out of the car, I was able to get 4 turns from the winder.
Tried fixing the cable (to the window glass) a bit higher and lower.  No improvement.  The issue seems to be the number of turns from the winder, once its installed.

Conclusions so far:
- The cable is too short (doesn't seem likely)
- I am doing something wrong (most likely).

Has anyone else had the same experience?  Can someone please help with some ideas?

Cheers,

Marco

Hi marco
Yea these winders are such a pain to install.  Not exactly sure but sounds to be like you haven't got the routing of the cable  exactly correct and are using too much cable, can you take some photo's?

Marco as my car is in 400 000 pieces atm and the windows are out but the winder mechanisms are still in place, let me know if you want images of inside the doors confirming the cable routing or if you want to check it out.

I have a spare door off the car with the cable attached as well if that helps.

Thanks guys.  The routing of the wiring is ok.  After consulting Gary, it looks like it may be a cable tension issue.  I will have another play with it and let you know how I get on.

There is a trick to doing this and I watched Paul Rankin in Bayswater do it my my car in about 5 minutes and it worked perfectly, maybe drop down there and he can advise/show you how to do it to save all of the drama and frustration. Its the same technique as for the alfettas as well.

Thanks again guys.
After another 2 hours this evening, I have not made any progress.  Its time to bite the bullet and seek some expert advice.

The winder mechanism is faulty.  The supplier is going to swap it for me.

Marco.

Hey Paul,

I am not running this weekend.  Instead I will be looking after the timing with Gary.  Bribes are welcome.

It's a pity not to see two good drivers circulating this weekend, but on the other hand it is comforting to know that the timing will be in such good hands.
With respect to the timing could I please submit the following suggestion / idea.
It has been great since the advent of Natsoft timing to be able to drive home from virtually any track and view the results of the day's sprints immediately. However this tends to be a summary of the day.  In the days before Natsoft the timing sheets for each sprint session (those that are put up at the track usually 20 minutes after the sprint) where published in the club magazine a month or so later. These sheets obviously are a lot more detailed as they have your time for each lap not just your fastest run for the session.
Is it possible to capture/ transfer the data from those sheets to an email / post that can be placed on the club website in the ensuing days.  I personally would find this information very useful especially if you are trying to have a detailed analysis of your performance in later days. ie: what worked and what didn't during a particular session or are you quicker in the early laps or later laps of a session etc.
This may also be a suggestion for Sheldon as an inclusion once again into the club magazine.

See you Sunday,

Cheers

Paul

Normally I send out a results sheet after each event.

I will endeavour to do but just backed up at the moment.

Hey Paul, on the natsoft results pages, there's a column on the right headed "Ind.Lap access#".  If you click on this it'll show you all the lap times.  I don't think many people find it.

cheers,
Evan.
