CAMS gets wheels rolling on club development
CAMS Media Release
14 Jun 2007

The Board of CAMS has approved the formation of a National Club Development Committee (NCDC) to assist with the development of car clubs and club-level motor sport. The new Committee will provide a direct conduit between clubs and the Board to enable a more viable future for CAMS and its member clubs.

The NCDC was established in response to the specific needs identified by various car clubs through a 2006 survey commissioned by the Board of CAMS and facilitated by Webster and Company Pty Ltd ('The Webster Report'), which involved 71 clubs and 125 club members from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Further input was also received at a number of Club Development Workshops conducted earlier this year in Melbourne and Sydney.

Inaugural NCDC Chairman, John Young, has served on the committee of one CAMS affiliated club for 20 years and is a member of five others.

"The NCDC represents a terrific opportunity to strengthen the relationship between CAMS and its affiliated clubs and build a stronger club movement. I'm looking forward to working with all clubs so that we can more effectively respond to their needs."

"It is also important to understand that the NCDC does not take over from the role of CAMS State Councils and will indeed be of great assistance to these bodies," said Young.

In broad terms, the NCDC will be responsible for ensuring that CAMS delivers appropriate and effective support, resourcing and facilities for car clubs, developing a range of relevant products to assist the growth and development of car clubs, and ensuring that CAMS regulations and requirements facilitate club level activities in all their forms. The NCDC will also have the ability to establish working groups to provide it with recommendations as deemed appropriate.

The following NCDC members have been appointed for 2007:

Chairman - John Young
Executive Officer - Michael Smith (CAMS Staff Member)
Members - Michael Clements, David Grundy, Ian McKenzie, Michael Myers, Peter Webster
Administration - Tom Snooks

The first official meeting of the Committee will be held in early August when policies, business plans and strategic plans will be established for the next three years.
