Last night I lost the ability to select 1,2 & reverse. At the time I was turning the Alfa around in a workshop and discovered the issue when I couldn't select reverse after having just used it. No bangs, crunches or anything. I am trying to diagnose the problem to discover whether it is in the linkage or in the gearbox. Unfortunately, without tearing the whole thing down it seems impossible to look at the linkage or how it attaches to the gearbox because it is directly above the torque rod body connection. Also none of the manuals I have show anything about the linkage or any drawings of it so I can see how it works. Can the Gurus give me a lead? Or am I destined to pull it apart? - Which I don't want to do If I have to put it back together to get it to a repairer.
TIA

Update, I have ascertained that my model has the isostatic shift mechanism as shown here:
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/alfetta-gtv6-1975-1986/10039-gtv6-shift-linkage-problems.html
I can feel that the rotational actuating lever is not broken as referred to in the above reference. Still investigating. Wish I could "see something"

It could be the roll pin in the linkage that's come away. I think I had that problem before and lost gear selections. A very simple fix if that's the case........ (See the diagram in your link by Murray)

Solved,
The small ball-link popped a ball cup. Hugh Harrison from Monza Motors is sending me a complete replacement isostatic linkage. Great guy. Got the contact from reading posts on this forum. Really appreciate the knowledge and help you fellows share with we of the great unwashed.
Thanks
